I have been looking forward to sharing Kaylyn and Brandon’s best day ever for quite some time now. Being an intimate weekday celebration with fun pops of color (About Time wedding themed), it was one of my favorites of last year. I met Kaylyn for the very first time during a hair styling portfolio shoot that a mutual friend Sean was photographing for Rochelle (who later became a good friend and business partner of mine). Rochelle and I later co-founded a local wedding blog – Charm City Wed and Kaylyn was 100% up for the challenge to be a subject model for test shoots. We got to know each other and I can truly say she’s one of the most fun people I know (with a shared interest of video games and all things nerdy).
When I heard that Brandon (her long time best friend since age 17) had asked her to be a part of his life forever, I was filled with happiness. When she asked me to be a part of their day by photographing all of the sweet moments, I simply had to say yes.
Their wedding day design was simple, colorful, and revolved around one of their favorite “together” movies – About Time. Kaylyn stumbled across her red lace wedding dress (for only $40!) at a vintage expo. She tried it on, it fit perfectly, and she knew it was the one. She later found out that, when selecting the red wedding dress in the movie, it was a specific choice for Rachel McAdams’ character. They wanted it to appear as though she just found it in a thrift shop and fell in love. Perfect, right?
“I was only a little worried about how Brandon might react to a dress with such vibrant color, but once we did our first look and I saw the look on his face – my worries were quashed. The day itself was intimate and full of so much love. I’ve never felt anything like it. So many details came together last minute (as last minute as a wedding can be when it’s planned in less than 4 months) and the day went out without a hitch. I know I can speak for both Brandon and I that it was the most amazing, magical day of our entire lives.”
Kaylyn handmade their wedding ceremony backdrop with miscellaneous ribbon, purchased from Michael’s. Such a fun DIY project to add color to their ceremony!
Kaylyn is a huge fan of comics and has a Wonder Woman tattoo on her arm. I simply could resist taking this fun shot!
Brandon’s brother owns Cafe Nola – a popular spot for organic eats and coffee in Downtown Frederick. They closed to the public for a couple of hours to continue Kaylyn and Brandon’s wedding celebration and host their dinner! If you find yourself in Frederick, do yourself a favor and check them out!
The hugest congratulations to Kaylyn and Brandon – two seriously inspirational sweethearts! Also, a huge shoutout goes to Jen for sharing their intimate celebration as a Valentine’s feature on Green Wedding Shoes this week!
